Combine semesters using their credits
- Enter your grading scale and each semester's supplied average with its total included credits.
- Calculate and inspect each weighted contribution and the exact fraction.
- Choose display precision or download the workings. Editing inputs invalidates previous results.
Formula and example
Weighted CGPA = sum of semester average × semester credits ÷ total credits. The illustrative example has 8.5 over 20 credits and 9 over 30: (170 + 270) ÷ 50 = 8.8. A simple average of the two points would be 8.75 and ignores the unequal credits.
The calculation uses exact bounded decimal arithmetic. Display rounding is nonnegative half up; the JSON fraction retains the exact value before display rounding. Choosing more decimals cannot recover precision already lost in a supplied semester average.
Your institution's rules still matter
This combines the semester averages you supply. Some institutions compute cumulative results directly from individual course points, treat repeated/failed/withdrawn courses differently, or prescribe another rounding policy. Rounded semester averages can produce a different result from course-level totals. Include credits according to your own policy; this tool does not infer eligibility, issue a transcript or verify official grades.
Changing the maximum scale does not rescale existing points. There is no universal CGPA-to-percentage conversion here. For marks as a part of a total, use the separate percentage calculator.
Limits and privacy
Use numeric points, positive credits and the stated limits. Zero points are valid; zero credits, negative values, invalid Unicode, unsupported separators or points above the chosen scale are rejected while inputs remain editable. Optional bulk import recognizes LF/CRLF/CR lines and preserves imported text for export until a semester field is edited. Otherwise, TXT contains the current rows serialized as label | average | credits. Duplicate semester labels are permitted; they represent separate rows.
Local processing, no upload, accounts or saved grades. JSON includes semester labels, input points/credits, entered rows, serialized entries and exact workings; keep exported/copied files private. User labels are displayed as literal text. Clipboard is optional. Restore example loads the illustrative two-semester defaults. Undo recovers the previous rows, scale, precision and calculated result after adding, removing, clearing, importing or restoring the example. Ordinary semester or setting edits discard that Undo step. Unapplied or rejected bulk text leaves the current result available.
