Prepare a print sheet
- Select the application-specific preset and read its official requirements. Choose an opaque, correctly framed original photo.
- Prepare the photo. Mark crown and chin on the preview, or enter their positions to estimate head height yourself.
- Generate a PDF sheet, print at Actual size / 100% with Fit disabled, and measure a copy with a ruler before using it.
US paper passport photos use 2 × 2 inches; this tool places them at exactly 50.8 × 50.8 mm. UK paper passport photos use 35 × 45 mm. Dimensions alone do not establish acceptance. Check appearance, pose, lighting, background, recency, paper quality and application instructions yourself. No government acceptance guarantee.
Crop an ID photo to your required size
Select Crop a custom ID photo and enter the required millimetres. The starting 35 × 45 mm size is an editable example, not a standard for every ID. Drag the preview to position the subject, zoom to frame it, and prepare the photo to review the exact result. Switching to a passport preset and back preserves your custom dimensions and framing in this tab. Clear resets them.
Download the cropped JPG, or generate a physical-size PDF sheet for printing. JPG dimensions are rounded to whole pixels at 300 pixels per inch; the PDF sets the exact entered millimetres. A JPG viewer may assign a different print resolution, so use the PDF for measured printing. Backgrounds, facial appearance and lighting are not changed. Check whether your issuing body permits cropping and whether its upload requires a different pixel size or format.
Original photos and passport presets
Verified print presets preserve the full, already framed photo and reject a different aspect ratio. The tool requires enough source pixels for its own 300 ppi print-quality floor: 600 × 600 for the US size and 413 × 531 for the UK size. These pixel floors are application choices, not additional official upload requirements. Original download is byte-identical and retains metadata. The PDF embeds the browser-decoded photo at its physical print size, applying orientation and excluding original metadata; it does not add measurement lines or alter the background.
Custom mode lets you drag a live preview, adjust zoom and position, and crop locally, then exports a JPG and print PDF at your entered size. This is not a verified passport preset. Custom cropping cannot enlarge pixels; reduce zoom or use a higher-resolution source. Confirm your authority permits cropping. There are no filters, AI face changes, retouching or background replacement.
Head measurements and online applications
For the US print preset, the stated head range is 1–1⅜ inches from chin to top of head (25.4–34.925 mm). For UK prints, crown-to-chin range is 29–34 mm. You mark points or enter positions manually; the tool cannot locate facial landmarks, assess a face or judge photo quality. Position percentages are measured from the top of the prepared preview.
UK online passport guidance says not to crop your own-device photo; the application does that. Use the original and its official application flow. US online renewal also has separate upload instructions. The printed-photo presets here are not digital-renewal upload presets.
Local privacy and limits
The photo stays in browser memory and a local PDF worker. No upload, photo draft, face recognition or external service. Clear releases the image, preview and results and cancels the worker. Cancel discards pending native image-encoding results; browser encoding itself cannot be forcibly stopped. Downloaded files and original metadata remain under your control.
PNG/JPG only; no HEIC, SVG, GIF or WEBP. Input is limited to 10 MB, 12 million pixels and sides up to 16,384 pixels. Animated PNG exports a still frame. Transparent photos reject instead of receiving an invented background. Browser decoding, color management, PNG normalization and printing can vary. Custom sizes are 5–100 mm; zoom 1–4; 1–12 copies must fit the chosen sheet. Print scale and printer quality still require physical checking. Source snapshots were reviewed 11 October 2026; check the linked authority for updates.
Why does my portrait fail an official print preset?
The whole original must already have the preset’s aspect ratio. A print-size check cannot fix framing or appearance. Follow the official capture guidance or use a photo service. Custom cropping is separate and does not establish passport compliance.
Are Indian passport presets included?
A current application-specific specification could not be verified for this release, so no definitive Indian preset is supplied. Follow your Passport Seva or mission instructions. Custom sizing is your responsibility.
