Choose what a paragraph means
- Paste plain text, import a UTF-8 TXT file or use the multilingual example.
- Select blank-line blocks or every nonblank line.
- Count, inspect the grouping, then download the unchanged original or labelled summary.
Blank-line mode groups consecutive nonblank lines into one paragraph; one or more whitespace-only lines separate groups. Internal line breaks remain in each previewed block. Every-line mode treats each nonblank line as a paragraph. U+2029 Unicode PARAGRAPH SEPARATOR always separates paragraphs in both modes. Emoji-only content and other non-whitespace text can form a paragraph; no grammatical completeness rule is applied.
Line breaks and blank lines
The tool recognizes CRLF as one line break, as well as LF, CR, U+0085 NEXT LINE and U+2028 LINE SEPARATOR. A line is blank when it contains only Unicode White_Space characters, including tabs and non-breaking spaces. Zero-width spaces, joiners and U+FEFF are not in that property, so they can make an otherwise invisible line nonblank. These are explicit plain-text grouping choices, not a document editor’s formatting model.
HTML tags are literal text, and this tool does not read HTML, DOCX or PDF paragraph formatting. The original download preserves the text value as entered. Browser textareas normalize pasted line endings to LF; the tool cannot recover the clipboard’s original byte encoding or line endings. Paragraph summary removes boundary blank lines and trailing line-break delimiters from the listed groups while retaining internal line breaks; it is separate from the unchanged original TXT.
Every paragraph is reachable in twenty-item pages. Each card previews at most 300 Unicode code points; the boundary can fall inside a combined character. Select or copy a paragraph to inspect its complete text. Filter by nonblank-line count or find the paragraph with most lines; ties use the first paragraph. Filters never change total counts or full downloads. Visual wrapping in this editor is not a line break. Unicode whitespace property reference.
Import and undo
TXT files are checked as UTF-8 up to 400 KB and 100,000 UTF-16 units. An initial BOM is removed and CRLF/CR line endings become LF. Invalid files keep your current draft and results. Editing cancels unfinished reads. Large pastes of at least 10,000 UTF-16 units use one validated replacement. Import, large paste, Use example and Clear text offer one undo step in memory; typing or changing the paragraph definition discards that undo. Copy counts only omits source text; both downloads include it.
Privacy and limits
Local worker processing only; no upload, saved draft, external service or executable HTML. Cancel terminates work, Clear removes text/results and keeps settings, and editing input or definition clears previous results. Maximum 100,000 UTF-16 units and ten-second timeout. Invalid unpaired surrogates reject for valid-Unicode UTF-8 export. Paragraph grouping needs no Intl.Segmenter. Live counts wait for a 450 ms pause and finish input-method composition before updating. Downloaded files remain under your control.
For native sentence boundaries use the sentence counter; for word-like segments use the word counter.
