Edit a document locally
Start with a blank editor, paste text or open a UTF-8 file. Undo and Redo work across typing, replacement, file opening, examples, clearing and download settings. Keyboard shortcuts are Ctrl/Command Z for Undo and Ctrl/Command Shift Z or Ctrl Y for Redo. Consecutive typing or deletion within 700 ms groups into one edit. Up to 40 history steps stay in memory; closing or reloading the page discards them.
Find, replace and navigate
Find literal text, move between matches and replace the selected match or all matches. A replace action can be undone in one step. Matching uses Unicode case-insensitive comparison unless Match letter case is selected; it does not normalize accents or apply language-specific spelling rules. Up to 20,000 matches are navigable; narrow the search if that limit is exceeded. Go to line and matching selections scroll the editor to the selected location, including when wrapping is enabled.
Understand downloaded bytes
The editor displays LF line breaks. Imported line endings remain available until you edit; Undo can recover the original file. Choose Keep current source endings for an untouched import, or explicitly select LF, CRLF or CR. The BOM checkbox reflects an imported UTF-8 BOM and is independently editable. Downloads always use UTF-8; invalid UTF-8, NUL and isolated Unicode surrogates are rejected. Other encodings are not silently guessed.
Counts, privacy and limits
The status bar reports Unicode code points, logical lines and source UTF-8 bytes; an emoji sequence can contain several code points. A trailing newline creates a final empty line. Source is limited to 256 KiB; converted download bytes may be larger when adding CRLF or a BOM. Files and edits remain local. Nothing is uploaded or saved automatically. Download before closing this page.
