Use weights from your course policy
For each graded assessment, contribution = earned marks ÷ possible marks × its course weight. The current average divides the sum of these contributions by completed weight, then multiplies by 100. Pending work and missing weight are not zero scores. Once 100% of the weight is graded, the current average is the final weighted percentage.
The example has assignments at 85% with 30% weight, a midterm at 72% with 30% weight, and a pending final worth 40%. It earns 47.1 course percentage points and averages 78.5% on completed work. To finish at 80%, the remaining 40% needs an average of 82.25%.
Estimate a target without hiding missing work
Required remaining average = (target percentage − earned course points) ÷ remaining course weight × 100. Remaining weight includes pending assessments and any unassigned share below 100%. The required average applies to all remaining work together, not necessarily to a single exam. An answer above 100% is unreachable under this model; an already secured target needs no further points.
This calculator supports ordinary marks from zero to the possible maximum, without extra credit, curves, dropped assessments, category-specific policies or institutional letter grades. Use your course policy to decide which rows to exclude. Excluding weight leaves that portion unassigned; it does not automatically redistribute other weights.
Exact arithmetic and recoverable entries
Enter decimal digits with a dot and up to two decimal places. Marks can be up to 100,000 and included weights must be greater than zero and at most 100%. All included weights together must not exceed 100%. Up to 50 assessments, names up to 80 UTF-16 units. Pending and excluded rows retain their score fields for later editing; those scores do not enter the calculation.
Calculations use exact fractions. Current grades round half-up to four places; required remaining averages round upward to four places so the displayed minimum does not understate the target. JSON retains exact fractions; CSV provides rounded review values and protects spreadsheet-sensitive text. Required averages are estimates under the entered weights; apply your institution’s own rounding policy.
Add, remove, clear and example replacement offer one Undo step that restores the assessment rows, target and previously calculated result. Uncalculated drafts stay uncalculated. Editing a field discards that structural undo and invalidates old results. Clear retains the target. There is no account, upload or automatic draft storage. Leaving the page loses the draft; download workings you want to keep.
