Open, unlock and download

  1. Choose the protected PDF.
  2. Enter an opening or owner password you already know.
  3. Download the verified unencrypted copy. Wrong passwords can be retried without uploading the file again.

What changes?

The copy opens without a password and removes reader permission restrictions. Page content, document properties and interactive forms are retained. Signed PDFs are rejected because rewriting them would invalidate their signatures. The original file is never overwritten.

If the selected PDF is already unencrypted, you can download the exact original without processing it. Encryption that uses certificates or nonstandard security handlers is unsupported.

Privacy and limits

The PDF and password stay in your browser. Passwords are cleared from the input after each attempt, cancellation or Clear, and are not saved in browser storage. This tool uses your supplied password; it does not guess, crack or recover missing passwords. Use it for documents you are authorized to change.

Supported standard password encryption includes RC4, AES-128 and AES-256. Use a PDF up to 20 MiB and 100 pages; output is limited to 40 MiB. Processing runs in a cancellable local worker with a 60-second deadline. PDF portfolios, damaged files and unusual structures may not be supported. Use Inspect PDF to check the actual downloaded copy, including every page. Undo changes restores your previous file and download after Clear or replacement; passwords are never restored. Review the downloaded copy before relying on it.
